Tour Merrimack Valley Wood Fueled District Heating Plant January 27th

MV Wood District Heating

As part of an ongoing effort to help citizens learn more about renewable energy, the Boscawen Energy Committee (BEC) invites the public to a tour of the Merrimack Valley School District wood-fired district heating plant on Friday, January 27th, at 3 PM.  Built in 2007, the MVSD district heating plant has been a huge success, saving MV taxpayers millions in heating cost by displacing hundreds of thousands of gallons of heating oil.  Wood chip fuel is sourced locally and sustainably and MV’s fuel expenditures stay in our community.  The system heats the high school, middle school, SAU office, and bus maintenance facility with over a half mile of insulated underground hot water pipe and a 4 million Btu wood chip boiler.  MV was only the second school district in the state to adopt modern wood heating technology, following Hanover’s lead.  Come learn more about this important renewable energy investment in our community!  We will meet at the boiler plant on Beede Drive in Penacook at 3 PM, and the tour will last about an hour.  For questions, call or text Charlie Niebling (BEC vice-chair) at 603.965.5434.
